Greg Byler and The Branded Souls: The Branded Souls

The Project

The original branded souls consists of master Aaron Walker on the drums, the magician Michael Giblin on the upright bass, Harold Burgon on the boards, and myself on the guitar and the vocals. The band was formed around the recording project embarked upon by myself and Mr. Burgon back in the early stages of 2004 over there in Granada, Spain. I had the songs and the desire and Harold had the know-how and the patience. Having failed at the first two attempts in finding the right rhythm section, I was forced back to Lititz, Pa. in search for some american swing. That's when I found Aaron. Aaron hails from Bumfuk, Texas, but I found him in Lancaster, and he swings. Mike I found in Harrisburg, a town for which I offer no adjectives. Mike has this amazing ability of being in more than one place at a time and for that reason he was able to record the backing tracks for my disc and at the same time hold some important position in a company that did the security systems for the Olympic Games in Greece and manage his own band and spend time with his wife. I don't know about the games, his gigs, or his girl, but on the disc he was a champion. The backing tracks were recorded in his home studio, Red Chuck Studios. That was a blast. Harold flew over from Granada, and we got stuck in. It was an atypical session for sure. Normally bands don't get to the studio at 9 am to start recording by 10. But that's what we did. We funked it up at dawn. Fortunately there were no video camaras. In three short weeks and with no casualties we had the raw material for the makings of fine disc. Harold did almost give a heart attack to a waitress in a pizza joint, however, when he asked her for some mayonnaise on his slice. I never was sure what to make of them British folks. And he calls us Americans strange! Anyway, we sent him safetly back to Spain and I followed him a week later to begin the next stage.
